Howdy! I’m Florian Peters, a software engineer working in the video game industry at Black Shamrock - a Virtuos Studio. Welcome to my personal blog! I post video game related programming tutorials and the occasional book review.

Background

I grew up in Belgium, the land of beer, chocolate and fries and in 2018, I graduated from the University of Liège with a Master’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering with a strong focus on machine learning, optimization and artificial intelligence.

I then took on a researcher and teaching assistant position at HEC Liège Management School where I taught courses at the Bachelor’s and Master’s level. I managed a team of developers to deliver virtual and augmented reality projects within the SIG. I also conducted scientific research on flight delay predictions and the three-dimensional bin packing problem using machine learning and deep reinforcement learning techniques.

Afterwards, I worked as an operations researcher within QuantOM on the City Line project. The objective of the project was to develop a digital platform for multi-modal collaborative freight transport. My contribution consisted in a robust software architecture for the decision-making module of the platform as well as novel optimization algorithms for the bi-objective problem of minimizing delivery costs and environmental impact in a collaborative transportation network. For more information, here is a presentation of the project (in French) done for LIEGE CREATIVE.

Right now, I’m working as junior software engineer at Black Shamrock, a game development studio in Dublin, Ireland where I help create systems and gameplay features in AA and AAA games.

Notable Achievements

Winner of the WeCargo hackathon in 2019 with a proposal for a Ground Service Equipment pooling and usage prediction tool written in PHP.
